Carrie lived in Indonesia for 7 years, while working for an environmental NGO.  She was nicknamed “Tempeh Carrie” by locals in Aceh, Sumatra because she consumed so much tempeh, With Simon she researched tempeh production and use in Java.

Simon’s wife was raised in Jakarta, and during their courtship he learned to make tempeh to satisfy her cravings for her beloved childhood food. He refined his skills while apprenticing with master tempeh makers in Jakarta,

Carrie and Simon founded Ministry of Cultures based on their common love of tempeh and their shared belief that the safeguarding of planet earth and our childrens' futures depend on humans shifting to plant-based diets.

They work together with a dedicated and passionate team to produce the best quality artisanal tempeh for food lovers in Berlin and beyond.
